Case Study: The High-Level Synthesis-Based Firmware Upgrade for the Digital Trigger Back-End System of the ATLAS Liquid Argon Calorimeter / Aguiar, Melissa S (Juiz de Fora U.) ; Santos, Dabson F dos (Juiz de Fora U.) ; Milic, Adriana (CERN) ; Cardinot, Diogo A (Rio de Janeiro Federal U.) ; Oliveira, Marcos V S (Brookhaven) ; Filho, Luciano M A (Juiz de Fora U.) ; Libotte, Gustavo B (Nova Friburgo Polytechnic Inst.) ; Peralva, Bernardo S (Nova Friburgo Polytechnic Inst.)
The trigger and data acquisition systems of the LHC experiments rely on reconfigurable architectures based on FPGA (Field Programmable Gate Arrays) to accommodate design updates and increasing of the detectors complexity. However, this flexibility comes at the cost of longer development and validation cycles, particularly for large real-time systems operating under strict latency and throughput constraints. [...]

Out‐of‐field neutron radiation from clinical proton, helium, carbon, and oxygen ion beams / Bolzonella, Matteo (Milan, Polytech.) ; Caresana, Marco (Milan, Polytech.) ; Cirillo, Andrea (Milan, Polytech.) ; Martí‐Climent, Josep M (Navarra U.) ; Martínez‐francés, Evangelina (Navarra U.) ; Mooshammer, Christina (Heidelberg U.) ; Schmidt, Stefan (Heidelberg U. ; Heidelberg U. Abstract Background In hadron therapy, out‐of‐field doses, which may in the long‐term cause secondary cancers, are mostly due to neutrons. Very recently, 4 He and 16 O beams have been added to protons and 12 C ions for clinical therapy. Purpose The focus of this article is to compare secondary neutron doses produced by clinical protons, 4 He, 12 C, and 16 O ion beams. Methods Ambient dose equivalent, H *(10), measurements were performed, with five types of rem counters, of the neutron field produced by the four primary ions impinging on a water phantom [...]

Fault-Tolerant Control of a Multiphase Series Capacitor Buck Converter in a Master–Slave Configuration for Powering a Particle Accelerator Electromagnet / Ibarra, Edorta (Basque U., Bilbao) ; Arias, Antoni (Barcelona, Polytechnic U.) ; Martínez de Alegría, Iñigo (Basque U., Bilbao) ; Otero-Olavarrieta, Alberto (Rioja U.) ; Matallana, Asier (Basque U., Bilbao) ; de Mallac, Louis (CERN)
Multiphase DC/DC power converter architectures have recently been investigated for powering the superconducting electromagnets in the High-Luminosity (HL) upgrade of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN, targeting high-performance figures and reliability. In terms of control, a master–slave voltage/current regulation configuration was previously proposed by the authors as an alternative to other well-known cascaded options. [...]

Assessment of a Translating Fluxmeter for Precision Measurements of Super-FRS Dipole Magnets / Kosek, Pawel (Darmstadt, GSI) ; Beaumont, Anthony (Darmstadt, GSI) ; Liebsch, Melvin (CERN)
In particle physics experiments, fragment separators utilize dipole magnets to distinguish and isolate specific isotopes based on their mass-to-charge ratio as particles traverse the dipole’s magnetic field. Accurate fragment selection relies on precise knowledge of the magnetic field generated by the dipole magnets, necessitating dedicated measurement instrumentation to characterize the field in the constructed magnets. Accuracy of a helium‐beam radiography system based on thin pixel detectors for an anthropomorphic head phantom / Metzner, Margareta (Heidelberg U.) ; Longarino, Friderike K (Heidelberg U.) ; Ackermann, Benjamin (Heidelberg U. Hospital) ; Schlechter, Annika (Heidelberg U.) ; Saphörster, Maike (Heidelberg U. ; CERN) ; Xu, Yanting (Heidelberg U.) ; Schlecker, Julian (Heidelberg U.) ; Wohlfahrt, Patrick (HZDR, Dresden) ; Richter, Christian (HZDR, Dresden) ; Brons, Stephan (Heidelberg U. Abstract Background Ion‐beam radiography is a promising technique to verify the range of ion‐beam radiotherapy treatments regularly. To detect and quantify the water‐equivalent thickness (WET) of potential anatomical changes, ion‐beam radiographs must provide a sufficient WET accuracy on the level of 1%. Purpose In this work, we show an energy‐painted helium‐beam radiograph of an anthropomorphic head phantom acquired with thin silicon pixel detectors for the first time [...]

Diamond is a highly promising material for neutron detection due to its radiation hardness, fast response, and high signal-to-noise ratio. A single-crystal diamond (sCVD) detector with a 6LiF conversion layer was developed in collaboration with CIVIDEC Instrumentation for in-beam measurements at the n_TOF facility at CERN. [...]
