Computation of landing of Cherenkov light
/ Wertelaers, P
We develop a method to compute the entire landed light image, then the response map of the photodetection plane, starting from a charged track assumed to be known. Such ”construction” method – anyway useful whilst trying new Detector layouts – might even be used for improvement of a reconstructed track velocity..

Calculation of radiation length in materials
/ Jose Da Silva, Rodrigo
This document briefly introduces an analytical method commonly used to determine the radiation length of elements, elemental molecules, chemical compounds, mixtures, composite materials and structures. The formulas are reliable in the absence of experimental data, but the experimental assessment should be prioritised when possible. [...]

HEV is a low-cost, versatile, high-quality ventilator, which has been designed in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The ventilator is intended to be used both in and out of hospital intensive care units, and for both invasive and non-invasive ventilation. [...]

The HEV Ventilator Proposal
/ Buytaert, J (CERN)
/HEV Collaboration
We propose the design of a ventilator which can be easily manufactured and integrated into the hospital environment to support COVID-19 patients. The unit is designed to support standard ventilator modes of operation, most importantly PRVC (Pressure Regulated Volume Control) and SIMV-PC (Synchronised Intermittent Mandatory Ventilation) modes. Estimation of the Optical Aging Rate for 1.00 mm Plastic Scintillating Fibre of Type SCSF-78M
/ Shinji, O (Kuraray Co., Ltd.)
Natural aging, in absence of ionizing radiation, leads to a very slow decrease of the optical transparency in plastic scintillating fibres. This aging phenomenon is attributed to chemical reactions of the fibre core material polystyrene, which can be a photo-reaction by natural light or an oxidation reaction with oxygen diffused in from the surrounding atmosphere. [...]

Elastic stability and HEP detectors: a primer
/ Wertelaers, P (CERN EP-DT)
Destabilizing -- or "buckling" -- phenomena can compromise the quality of a physics detector long before the point of collapse has been reached. We rehearse on the two types of buckling : snap-through versus bifurcation. [...]

Downward transfer of a sub-cooled cryoliquid
/ Wertelaers, P (CERN EP-DT)
An alternative is proposed to the traditional transfer of a cryo fluid in gaseous -- and warm -- form, a method of low productivity and high energy cost. In order to prevent the much-feared geysering, focus is on sub-cooling of the liquid, and the safe maintaining of such state all along the journey [...]
