Search for low-mass resonances decaying to a pair of muons in proton-proton collisions at sqrt(s) = 13.6 TeV /CMS Collaboration
A search for prompt production of low-mass dimuon resonances is reported using proton-proton collision events at $\sqrt{s} = 13.6~\mathrm{TeV}$ collected by the CMS detector in 2022-2024, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 175$~\mathrm{fb}^{-1}$. The search employs a newly developed inclusive dimuon trigger and probes the existence of GeV-scale dark photons. [...]

Search for heavy top quark partners with charge 5/3 in the single-lepton final state in proton-proton collisions at sqrt{s}=13~TeV /CMS Collaboration
A search for the pair production of a vector-like quark ($X_{5/3}$), a heavy fermionic partner of the top quark with an exotic electric charge of 5/3 times the charge of the positron, is presented. The search is performed in the single-lepton final state, where the lepton is either an electron or a muon, using proton-proton collision data collected by the CMS experiment at the LHC from 2016 to 2018 at a center-of-mass energy of $\sqrt{s}=13~\mathrm{TeV}$, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of $138~\mathrm{fb}^{-1}$. Performance of heavy-flavour jet identification in the CMS high-level trigger during LHC Run 3 /CMS Collaboration
The CMS trigger system plays a crucial role during data taking, reducing the large collision rate delivered by the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) to a few kHz for data storage and subsequent offline analysis. The system aims to maintain high selection efficiency for processes involving jets from heavy-flavour quarks (b and c), which constitute a distinctive signature in many physics analyses. [...]

A machine-learning method for the estimation of the background from jets misidentified as hadronic tau lepton decays /CMS Collaboration
Backgrounds arising from quark- and gluon-initiated jets misidentified as hadronically decaying tau leptons constitute a major experimental challenge for analyses involving tau leptons. The MUFFIN (MUltivariate Fake-Factor INference) approach, a machine-learning-based method for estimating this background directly from data, is presented. [...]

Evidence of the dead-cone effect in bottom quark initiated jets /CMS Collaboration
The suppression of collinear gluon emissions from a massive quark, or the ``dead-cone effect,'' is the primary manifestation of quark mass effects in parton showers. A differential measurement is presented of the emission density of bottom quarks, studied as a function of the angular separation between the emissions from the same emitter. [...]
