Low-energy cosmic and solar radiation serves as a probe for investigations in astrophysics and heliophysics, and at the same time constitutes a risk to the spacecraft and crew of deep-space exploration missions. We present compact tracking calorimeters made from scintillating-plastic fibers and silicon photomultipliers that can determine the charge and energy of individual cosmic-ray nuclei with energies in the MeV-to-GeV range. Novel method to assess the electromagnetic radiation damage using HGCAL silicon sensors
/ Fialova, E (CERN ; CTU, Prague) ; Defranchis, M M (CERN) ; Kopsalis, I (Athens U.) ; Peltola, T (Texas Tech.)
Studies of the silicon dioxide (SiO$_{2}$) passivation layer in n-on-p silicon sensors, which will be used in the CMS High Granularity Calorimeter (HGCAL), are important for improving their performance notonly at the High-Luminosity LHC, but also at future high-energy physics experiments. This work explores a novel method for estimating the effect of surface radiation damage on inter-pad isolation in HGCAL sensors by measuring the threshold voltage for inter-electrode isolation V$_{th,iso}$. Test diodes with different SiO$_{2}$ variants are irradiated with X-rays, and their characteristics are measured at a controlledtemperature of -20°C. [...]

The onset of collective nuclear behavior in the ${N=60}$, ${A\sim100}$, region is examined through high-precision mass measurements of $^{96-98}$Kr, performed with the ISOLTRAP mass spectrometer at ISOLDE, CERN. Our results for $^{96-97}$Kr agree with previous measurements, with our new $^{97}$Kr Penning-trap mass value three times more precise. [...]

Radiofrequency Coil Tuning Using Matching Circuit Co-Simulation with Magnetic Resonance Integral Equations
/ Ajanovic, Amer (Sarajevo U. ; CERN) ; Ogier, Stephen (King's Coll. London (main)) ; Tomi-Tricot, Raphael (King's Coll. London (main) ; Unlisted, GB) ; Hajnal, Joseph V (King's Coll. London (main) ; Unlisted, GB) ; Malik, Shaihan J (King's Coll. London (main) ; Unlisted, GB)
The proposed extension to the conventional circuit co-simulation (CCS) method reliably and efficiently introduces arbitrary matching networks into CCS routines and is here dubbed as matching circuit co-simulation (MCCS). It further achieves coil tuning for resonance and an optimum scattering parameters condition that resembles a fully matched coil. [...]

Online X-Ray Radiation Induced Attenuation of RPL Dosimeters: Dose Rate Dependence at High Doses

Monitoring radiation levels accurately in high-dose environments is essential, particularly as the need for dose monitoring in the kGy-MGy range increases. Most dosimetry techniques are not reliable at these dose levels, necessitating the exploration of alternative methods. [...]

We performed soft error rate (SER) characterization of 40- and 65-nm bulk CMOS static random access memories (SRAMs) combined with neutron spectrometry in the deuterium-tritium (D-T)-fueled Joint European Torus (JET) tokamak during its final D-T plasma operation (September and October 2023) producing a series of several dozens of power pulses. Our experimental results demonstrate the impact of machine operation on the electronics’ reliability, emulating realistic conditions for circuits exposed to the partially radiation-shielded environment of future fusion reactors.
