The CLEAR user facility: a review of the experimental methods and future plans
/ Korysko, Pierre (Oxford U. ; CERN) ; Malyzhenkov, Alexander (CERN) ; Aksoy, Avni (CERN) ; Robertson, Cameron (Oxford U.) ; Bateman, Joseph (Oxford U.) ; Sjobak, Kyrre (Oslo U.) ; Dosanjh, Manjit (Oxford U.) ; Corsini, Roberto (CERN) ; Rieker, Vilde (CERN) ; Farabolini, Wilfrid (CERN)
The CERN Linear Accelerator for Research (CLEAR) is a test facility delivering an electron beam in the 30-220 MeV energy range to a diverse user community. In 2022, several hardware and software upgrades were done to the main installation, and procedures and methods were developed to address specific user requirements, including a further extension of the beam parameter ranges. Direct injection extraction system into a high frequency radiofrequency quadrupole for medical applications
/ Mamaras, Aristeidis (CERN ; Aristotle U., Thessaloniki) ; Lombardi, Alessandra (CERN) ; Sampsonidis, Dimitrios (Aristotle U., Thessaloniki ; CERN) ; Pasino, Eleonora (CERN) ; Di Lorenzo, Francesco (CERN) ; Lallement, Jean-Baptiste (CERN) ; Koopmans, Marten (CERN)
As part of CERN's medical application research, a compact electrode system (< 30 cm) has been designed to facilitate low-current, multiparticle beam extraction and matching to a high-frequency RFQ. This study explores the innovative extraction system design and evaluates its simulation performance. [...]

Investigations in turn-by-turn optics measurements at KARA
/ Zimmermann, Frank (CERN) ; Keintzel, Jacqueline (CERN) ; Mueller, Anke-Susanne (KIT, Karlsruhe) ; Haerer, Bastian (KIT, Karlsruhe) ; Blomley, Edmund (KIT, Karlsruhe) ; Huttel, Erhard (KIT, Karlsruhe) ; Steinmann, Johannes (KIT, Karlsruhe) ; Gethmann, Julian (KIT, Karlsruhe) ; Tomas, Rogelio (CERN)
The Karlsruhe Research Accelerator (KARA) is a synchrotron light source user and test facility, operating at an electron beam energy ranging from 0.5 to 2.5 GeV. Performing optics measurements and comparing with the machine model promises an improved understanding of the lattice and the underlying beam dynamics. [...]

Magnetic field modelling and symplectic integration of magnetic fields on curved reference frames for improved synchrotron design: first steps
/ Van der Schueren, Silke (CERN ; U. Rome La Sapienza (main)) ; De Maria, Riccardo (CERN) ; Benedetto, Elena (Unlisted, CH) ; Barna, Daniel (Wigner RCP, Budapest) ; Migliorati, Mauro (U. Rome La Sapienza (main))
Compact synchrotrons, such as those proposed for cancer therapy, use short and highly bent dipoles. Large curvature drives non-linear effects in both body and fringe fields, which may be critical to control to obtain the desired dynamic aperture. [...]

Linear accelerators for medical applications present the possibility to reduce costs compared to cyclotrons or synchrotrons while offering higher beam stability and flexibility. In the framework of NIMMS, the Next Ion Medical Machine Study, the design of a linear accelerator for carbon ion therapy has been completed at CERN. [...]

Introducing a semi-Gaussian mixture model for simulating multiple coulomb scattering in RF-track
/ Stechauner, Bernd (CERN ; TU Vienna) ; Frühwirth, Rudolf (Vienna, OAW) ; Latina, Andrea (CERN) ; Schulte, Daniel (CERN) ; Schieck, Jochen (Vienna, OAW)
Within the context of a design study of a LINAC for ionization cooling, this paper presents the result of incorporating a scattering model in RF-Track (v2.1) for charged particles heavier than electrons. This inclusion enables simulations for applications like ionization cooling channels for muon colliders. [...]
